WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?

Suppose we were given these instructions: Go in the kitchen, bake a cake, use a square pan, and use real butter. How many of the instructions could we change or deem unnecessary and still say, "We did what we were told?"

Suppose we were given these instructions:

  • Believe, have faith (Hebrews 11:16) "Without faith it is impossible to please Him."
  • Repent of sins (Acts 17:30-31) "God…commands all men everywhere to repent."
  • Confess that Jesus is the Christ (Matthew 10:32-33) "Whoever confesses Me before men, him will I also confess before My Father who is in heaven."
  • Be baptized for the remission of your sins (Acts 22:16) "Why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord."
  • Live a faithful life (Revelation 2:10) "Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life."

Since God has graciously given us access to salvation through Jesus, His Son, (Romans 5:3) how many of His instructions can we leave out or deem unnecessary and still say, "We did what we were told?"

Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me ‘Lord, Lord’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven."
